Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere STX38 Lawn Tractor, john deere stx38, john deere stx38 lawn tractor
QuestionI need to replace the brake pads on this tractor. There are two 3/8" bolts that appear to thread into the aluminum case of the Peerless transmission, and they won't budge. I have hit them with PB blaster and heat with no luck. Any ideas??
AnswerHello Doug:
Have you Hit the Bolt Caps with a Hammer and Pin Punch Yet? Using a Pin Punch and 5 Pound Shop HAmmer; Hit the Bolt Cap Straight on as if Driving a Nail. Do Not be Afraid to Hit it Hard. Now Try to Turn the Bolt Out. I have Found that with Steel Bolts in Aluminum a Good Jar will Usually Release the Aluminum from the Steel. Also Try Hitting the Breaker Bar While Trying to Turn the Bolt. It Sometimes Takes 2 People to Do this, so Get Someone you Trust if you are Holding the Breaker Bar and Socket. LOL. Hope this Helps. I am Here if You Require More Assistance. Let me Know What Happens, Please. Thanks.
Good Luck
