Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Huskee riding mower transmission, shift linkage, murray mower
QuestionHi, I have a older huskee 12hp riding mower. It is a murray mower with model number of 40703x60d and serial number of 95129-102642. The tractor will does not seem to shift into any of the gears at all. It is supposed to be a 5 speed transmission, but it feels like I only have 2 gears, if I try to put it in any other gears it does not move. There is a lot of slop in the shifter linkage and it will engage reverse every so often. I have checked the pulleys on the shaft of the motor and they seem to be fine as well as the belts. I just got the mower and replaced on the electrical on it and now this. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.
AnswerCheck the bolt that connects the shift linkage to the transaxle. Also, check the rest of the shift linkage arm.
While you checking examine the transaxle. You should find a small metal tag with the transaxle number stamped into the plate.
Let me know what trans you have.
