QUESTION: where can i find the safety switch on a 1984 murray riding mower18 horse power.

What safety switch there are a few of them,1 under the seat,one for the blade engage,one for the parking brake,and some of the newer one have one for the reverse.

QUESTION: the reason i ask is because the 1984 murray does not start at all. as if the switch is dead.and i can not find the switch for the blade or is it in the deck?

The blade switch is located by the clutch engage pulley which is under the mower. I would check to see if a wire is grounded out from the mower you can remove the wire from the switches and put a small paper clip in the connector to see if that will start. You may want to look in the owners manual for the switch locations.
