Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): starter on riding mower, ohv engines, briggs and stratton

I have a murrey rider with a 20 hp briggs and stratton motor. The starter had burnt up and i had it rebuilt. The first time it fired right up and ran perfect. But after that I had to run a bigger power cable and a different ground to the starter to get it to give me more than half spins and crank. Well this worked about four times before the starter went up in smoke. Everybodys saying its the ohv but i know what the ohv engines look like and mine has no ohv. What do you think?

From your Description, it Sounds like the Valves are Out of Adjustment or the Flywheel Key is Damaged. Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower and the Engine, Please.
