Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): v-belt too loose, how do you adjust ?, craftsman lawn tractor, tractor mower

How do you adjust the replacement deck v-belt properly?  It's way too loose.  Craftsman lawn tractor mower 18.5 HP, 42" deck, Model # 917.274640.  Thanks in advance for any information you can offer.

There is no adjustment. Did you buy an EXACT replacement belt. Belts on mowers are very unique, the belt will be something like 59.27 inches,.The after market belt will be 59.5 inches and that's enough to cause a problem.
If the belt isn't #174883 it won't work.
Why do you think the belt is to loose?
Mower belts are never as tight as you think they should be.
Reach up into the frame and grab the drive belt. The deck belt should have the same tension.
