Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Briggs & Stratton 15.5, briggs stratton, switch jumper
QuestionI haven't started this mower for 4 years. I have purchased a new battery. I have cleaned the ground and terminals. I have taken the key switch off and cleaned the terminals. I have a volt meter and checked different places but I am not sure where I should see ground or 12V. I can't even get the lights on. I am not sure if it is a safety switch or a key switch. I really need help!
AnswerHello Jeff:
Send me the Model Numbers Off the Mower, Please. With these I can Locate the Proper Manual and Better Assist you. However, Some Mowers Headlights will Operate Only when the Engine is Running. This was Done to Prevent the Battery from being Discharged if the Lights were Left on by Accident. Check the Fuse/Fuse Link. Check the Voltage at the Ignition Switch. Jumper ALL the Safety Switches, 1 at a Time to Eliminate them. Also if it's been 4 Years, you May need to Clean and Rebuild the Carburetor After you get the Electrical Problem Solved. I can Assist More with the Model Numbers. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please.Thanks.
Good Luck
