Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 18 hp vanguard motor, compression gauge, leak down tester

i have a 18hp motor that dumps oil in carb while running and it boggs down and smokes did i loose a ring or a valve is stuck or what please help thanks matt

I would start by checking the compression with a compression gauge or a leak down tester.  This will tell you the condition of the cylinders.  The cylinder compression should be within 10% of each other.

What oil are you using?  Did the problem happen suddenly or has the engine sat a while?
