Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): JD 318 wont turn over., selenoid, starter problem
QuestionI have a 318 with an Onan engine, when I turn the key it just has this clicking sound (I think tha is the selenoid) I had the battery checked and it is fully charged. Is this a selenoid problem or a starter problem, how can I tell?
AnswerHello Paul,
You will need an electrical test light to diagnose this problem. They are inexpensive and are available at any auto parts store. After grounding the clip on the test light to a good engine ground, check the connector on the starter to see if it is energized when the key is in the start position. If it is you have a starter problem. If it isn't you have a bad solenoid. Hope this was of help to you.
