Hi. Got a 6.75hp craftsman lawnmower that seems to get no spark. Chg'd. plug/gas and checked plug connection. Still no. Could it be the magneto that is bad? How do you test the magneto? Does one side or both sides of it fail? It has a 6.75hp engine, model 917.377690,ser.# 050900M 039004, engine-model 143.006706/family YTPXS.2071BA,D.O.M.0120K

ALOT OF TIMES THERE IS A SWITCH DOWN BY DECK THAT IF YOU DONT HAVE A GUARD OR BAGGER ATTACHMENT MOUNTED CORRECT IT WILL SHORT OUT SPARK. LOOK FOR ANYTHING LIKE THAT FIRST.
ALSO SAFETY HANDLE MUST BE ENGAGED AS WELL TO START. CHECK SEE IF THAT CABLE FROM IT IS WORKING IT PROPERLY.
THEN IF EVERYTHING CHECKS OUT> I,D SAY YES COIL IS BAD. IT IS UNDER FLYWHEEL, AND MUST BE REPLACED. IF YOU ARE SOMEWHAT HANDY YOU CAN DO THIS WITH ALITTLE KNOWLEDGE. JUST WATCH HOW IT COMES APART.
Answerthat really dont do it. i have a unit that you hook up to them like a dealer has to check them. if you take it off, and take to a shop they can check it for you.
if you just plan want to replace it. take all the numbers and believe it or not NAPA stores do handle small engine suppies at reasonable prices, they can order you a new one cheaper then most lawn repair shops. i get alot of supplies from them.
