Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 10hp kawaski vertical shaft, vertical shaft, voltage reg

I RECENTLY PERCHASED AN OLDER MANCO 70S TRIKE THAT HAS A 10HP KAWASKI ON IT.WHAT IS THE SMALL RECTANGULAR BLOCK ATTACHED TO THE ENGINE THAT HAS A FEW WIRES COMEING OUT OF IT?A VOLTAGE REG OR RECTIFIER? CAN I HOOK UP LIGHTS THREW THESE WIRES OR A SHUT OFF SWITCH?

 Hello Peter:

 You are going to be Better Off Wiring the Lights to the Battery with a Fused Wire. Place the Fuse Within 2" of the Battery Terminal. Never Wire Directly to the Regulator. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
