QuestionJeff:
Thanks, I looked at my supplier website and did not find the stator coils part in their list. Any suggestion where to buy it and the estimated cost? I have a craftsman tractor made in 1997 with model # 917259590 and 5.5 hp Briggs & Stratton engine.
Thanks again,
David

-----Question-----
I did some repair for my tractor on steering assembly. Now, the engine won't start. I had mistakenly reversed battery terminals and seen some smoke out of engine. After correcting the battery connections, I could not start engine anymore. Can you help?
Many thanks in advance!
David

burned out the stator coils. you have to have it replaced, which is under the flywheel.
Answeri need more imformation here. first you hooked up battery wrong.> then changed it to right way. now as you turn key does it turn over? if not check for any fuses first that may be blown. there should be one that blew. 2 if not then , if possible turn engine over by hand checking to see if spark to plug> if you have you got lucky there. then, i,d try a different battery you may have burned or shorted out that, meaning cranking amps. a battery can show charge> but no cranking amps to turn a motor over.
now i,am sure if noting else you may have burned out the charging coil under the flywheel... or stator normally called. as for price ? that depends on lot. which one it is? and amps of it.
you may want to try and just see if you starter turns over by jumping it with a battery. positive to the bolt neg. to the starter housing.
