Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): rx73 john deere wont start, crankcase oil, white smoke

My lawn mower stopped running and was out of gas I added more gas it crank and then went off now I only get a puff of white smoke and strong gas smell.sholud I start with the firing problem or gas issue

 Sorry for the Delay. From your Description it Sounds like the Carburetor Float is Stuck. Check the Crankcase Oil for Gas Smell and Contamination. You can View a Breakdown/IPL of the Mower at this Addy http://jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490.partscatalog.view.servlets.H... and Enter the Model Numbers.
