Question -
The chord that you pull to start the engine gets stuck quite often and I have to use a screwdriver to push the "flywheel" which then winds the chord back.
I need to do this several times until engine starts and then once it starts the rope stays unwound and I have to wrap it around the handle until I finish mowing a couple of hours later and do the screwdriver bit again.
Any easy way to fix this? I have sprayed some oil at the top of the flywheel to no avail.
Thanks,
Bill

Answer Hello Bill:
Go to this Addy http://www.outdoordistributors.com/ and Click on the T. Then Select Tecumseh. Then Select Dont have Part Numbers. Then Enter the Model Nmbers 143.006700. Then Download the File. The Cause for your Problem is the Starter Pawls are Stuck or Sticking. Remove the Blower Housing(metal engine cover) Diagram # 260 on Page 1 of 5. The Recoil Starter is Bolted to the Blower Housing. Look at the Recoil Starter and you can See the Pawls or the Pawl Housing in the Center of the Pulley. Lubricate the Pawls and Pawl Housing. Disassemble the Pawl Housing if Required. The Pawls should Retract into the Housing when the Recoil Starter is Not Being Pulled. When you Pull the Starter Rope the Pawls will Extend Outward and Catch the Starter Bell/Cup(diagram #285) and Turn the Engine. Rust and Dirt have Built Up and are Restricting the Movement of the Pawls. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
Good Luck
