Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No Reverse on Craftsman Riding Mower, craftsman riding mower, shift rod
QuestionI have a Craftsman Rider 5 speed with a 38" deck, Model # 917.254230. It has an 11ph B&S engine. The problem is no reverse. I was told to replace the belts, which I did. Still no reverse. I also only seem to have 1 speed. Forward and that's it. The lever to shift gears is very loose as well. I went to www3.sears.com and looked at the diagrams, just not sure which one and what to look for.
If you could please help direct me on how to repair this, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you,
Laura
Answer Hello Laura:
Check the Shifter Linkage. It May have Come Loose from the Transaxle Shift Rod or from a Support Bracket. Check the Transaxle Mounting Bolts and the Frame. If the Transaxle has Come Loose or the Frame has Cracked, this will Cause the Problem you are Having. The Shifter Linkage shouldnt be Sloppy. I will Try and Locate a Better Breakdown/IPL. Sears Usually has good Breakdowns/IPL for their Mowers. Your Mower just Doesnt have a Good Breakdown/IPL. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require More Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
Good Luck
