Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Governor, RPM, Carb, briggs stratton, drive pulley
QuestionHi, John
My go cart has a 5hp Briggs & Stratton 4cycle 206cc at 3,600R/Min ( SAE J607).I turned up my gas feed to my carb but I want more power due to such heavy frame and big 20inch tires. I don't know if my governor is working or not because I don't know that much about them. Question: How can I check and tune it up to my speed and one more thing if I due turn up the governor do I need to take the carb back to normal beacuse a friend of mine said it could probably burn up the engine or the gas, exhaust valves because of the straight pipe that I have on it now. Is that true? Sorry for so many questions but i've tried to fix this thing too many times. Thanks, Adam
Answer Hello Adam:
The Muffler is Not there Just for Noise on the Small Engines. It Prevents Cold Air from Rushing into the Exhaust Port and Contacting the Hot Exhaust Valve. Over a Period of this Hot and Cold Interaction, thenExhaust Valve will Warp and Start Sticking. You will have to Sacrifice Either Speed or Power. If the Engine is Turning 3600RPM's Now then you are at Maximum. You will need to Change the Drive Pulley Ratio. The Carburator is Designed to get Maximum Performance Out of the Engine No Matter what its Function. If you BUILD the Engine from Scratch, then a Carburator Modification would be Required. Hope this Helps. I am here if you Require more Assistance. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
Good Luck
