Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): John Deere 317, john deere 317, starter switch

Mower will not hold charge. Was not getting 12 volts to regulator.  Replaced starter switch. Now get 12+ volts to regulator. Checked two leads to stator, producing 38 amps. Tractor starts, dies once pto switch engaged after 30 or so sec.; but then starts back up.  Elimated seat safety switch by tying two pink leads together. Engine Model #KT17QS, Spec # 24301; 48 mower.

 Hello Gary:

 It Sounds like the Engine is Starving for gas when the Engine is Under a Load. If this is the Case, then Clean and Rebuild the Carburator. I have Looked at the Breakdown for this Mower and see Nothing Else that would cause this Problem. Unless you have a Short in the Harness. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please. Thanks.
