Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): No spark with Craftsman 6.75 mower, eager 1 engine, craftsman bagger
QuestionHello,
I have a Craftsman bagger/mulcher self propelled mower, model 917-377582. The mower is the 6.75 horse Eager-1 engine. When I first tried to start the mower I had no sign of any attempt to fire. I had already replaced the plug, filter and cleaned ignition as well as setting the gap. I checked the plug for spark and found it had very weak spark. After disassembling the cover to inspect the ignition again I found no sign of any problems, loose ground etc... Tried it again several times, adjusting the gap but never attained any spark. At this point I am unable to get any spark, not even the weak spark I had. Since it had not run yet with the new plug the plug is absolutely clean. I even tried another ignition assy from a different Tecumseh I had but still nothing. Since the Sears site is so vague I am confused about the ground and where it terminates, seems to be under the flywheel. Would this sound as though the ignition assy is bad, by the way the other I tried I wouldn't doubt is bad too. I guess I am hoping to find a means of testing this prior to the runaround I expect when going for parts. I am just surprised that neither assy would produce spark, though I wouldn't be surprised as I mentioned that both are bad. It has been some time since I have worked on small engines, is there a point/condensor assembly under the flywheel on this model, doesn't show on the parts diagram. Any help would be appreciated.
Answer Hello Kevin:
Sorry Kevin but the Numbers you sent me Wont Help. Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. With these I can View the Breakdown of the Engine and Better Assist you. Depending on the Age of the Mower it May or May Not have the Point Set. Thanks.
