Question
Here are numbers I found on the cover in order: 81202, 948552, 6009280. I am almost certain it is a Briggs&Stratton. It is 3 horsepower. The bottoms were cut off the second set of numbers, but it looked like 948552.

I am not sure about the numbers, the motor has been painted, but I will look again and let you know. Now a little bit about the carb: no choke, it does has the one screw on the side with a spring on it, fuel adjustment, I believe. On the very end of the carb, where some have a pull out choke, there is a brass filter. I have seen this filter on industrial machines, used as an air exhaust. Hope this helps some, I will look again for numbers. Thank you.

Question -
I have a 3hp horizontal shaft Briggs&Stratton motor that I am putting on a go cart. Here is what has been done:electronic ignition (hot Coil) It has a racing cam. It is ported has had the spring pressures set and spring pockets cut. Valves ground, seats cut. Carb has no choke.(I did not perform the work.) My problem is, I can start the motor by holding my hand over the carb. Once I take my hand off, the motor quits running. As long as I keep my hand on the carb, it runs great. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Hello James:
It sounds like the Carburator is Clogged with Varnish that the Gas will Form over Time. Does this Carburator have Air/Fuel Mixture Adjistment Screws? Send me the Model, Type and Code Numbers Off the Engine and I can Better Assist you. Thanks.

Hello James:
Look Above the Spark Plug On the Engine Cover. There Should be a Model, Type and Code Numbers Located there. Thanks.

Answer Hello James:
Thanks for the Numbers. They Helped me a Lot. From what I see in the Diagram, if the Valve Clearance is Set Properly, then the Carburator needs to be Cleaned and Rebuilt. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.
Good Luck
