Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Charging System on Craftsman Lawn Tractor, 30 amp fuse, craftsman lawn tractor

Mr. Bridgers,
I have a late 90's Craftsman tractor with a 15.5 HP engine.  Today it drained the battery and when I started to trouble shoot I noticed that the red (charging) wire leading from the disconnect link into the engine had burnt out of the plug.  When I reconnected the wire and turned on the ignition, the 30 amp fuse blew.  Replaced fuse and it blew again.  Neither time did I actually start the engine.  Any suggestions as to the cause?

 Hello Greg:

 Send me the Model Numbers Off of the Mower and the Make, Model, Type and Code Numbers Off of the Engine, Please. It Sounds like the Stator has Shorted, but I would like to see the Type of Charging System this Engine and Mower has. Charging Systems Vary with the Manufacturer and Model of Each Mower. Thanks.
