Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): mower starters, type numbers, riding mower

Question
I own a craftsman lt 1000 riding mower. When I go to start it the starter spins and nothing else happens. Could it be the starter?

 Hello Joe:

 The Starter Drive Is Not Engaging the Flywheel. The Starter Drive(the Plastic Gear) May be Bad. Send me the Model Numbers, Type Numbers and Code Numbers Off the Engine and I can Get you a Diagram online for you to see the Starter Breakdown. With the Breakdown, you should be able to Replace the Starter Drive Yourself. Hope this Helps. Let me know what Happens, Please.
