Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Briggs & Straton will not start, briggs straton, float bowl
QuestionI have a craftsman 6.0 push mower. Mowed the yard and set the mower behind the house and it rained. It will start for about 1-3 seconds and die. Here is what I have done to it. Drained the fuel twice, Cleaned the carb and found nothing, cleaned the spark plug. When I first removed the plug it was wet. I left it out and cleared out the motor of water. Took the top cover off and cleaned the ignition(had alittle rust from the rain). It seems that when you prime the carb it runs but stops after the fuel is gone from the prime. Seems that it has a bad fuel pump. Is the fuel pump bad from sitting out in one rain or is there something that I am over looking? Thank you for your time Steve
AnswerThis problem is most likely the carburetor; we see this problem several times each day. Are the small holes in the float bowl nut clean?
Is your gas less than 30 days old?
Do you have a primer button on the air filter housing? If so, the gasket behind the air filter housing is prone to breaking and can cause your problem.
Did you remove, dis-asseble and clean the carburetor with compressed air from an air compressor?
Let me know.
