Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): MTD self propelled transmission, rear wheel drive, shift cable

My 21 in 6.5 HP Yardman 6 speed self propelled rear wheel drive works in gears 5 and 6, but I cant shift it into any lower gears.  Thought I would ask an expert before tearing into it.  Any ideas?

Hi Dave,

I suspect a shift cable or linkage that has gotten out of adjustment.  Start there but you may have to investigate further.  It's hard to say, as there could be several reasons.  I'm sure it will be obvious when you get there.
