I have a garage door opener that seems to not be working, when i hit the button to close it, the light comes on and flashes 10 times but does not close. if i HOLD the button down it closes. I thought the eye/sensor things werent lined up or something was in the way but there isnt anything on them. Could it be flasing 10 times to mean something? Its a Sears brand.

Hi Becky,

If the door is equipped with door frame mounted safety sensors, they may be out of alignment.  Usually there is a light on one sensor to set that.  Other than that, I can't think of anything else to check.  The 10 flashes MAY be a trouble indicator but without the manual we can't tell what it means.  If the unit is old, it may have a circuit board problem and the opener may need replacement if you can't live with it as is.
