Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): timing tecumseh, dot line, compresion

dots& lines-does the dot & line match at compresion or exaust stoke or high or low?

Answer
The cam and crank line dot will line up and fall into place easy when both valves are fully closed.

Before I fully assemble the engine I always rotate the crankshaft in the correction direction and follow all 4 cycles to make sure it is timed correctly.  After a couple of revolutions watching the valves open the timing marks should be lined up again.
