Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): hour meter, ohv engine, spark plug wire
Questioni have bought a generator with a briggs 10hp ohv engine with a kill switch. (no battery, hand crank) i bought a enm hour meter that says it is wired through the kill switch. how does it get power to run the meter if the kill switch simply supplies an alternate ground to the spark plug to stop the spark? thanks.
AnswerDepending on your meter depends if it will work. Most hour meters work on 12 volts but some meters for small engines have an internal battery for power and connect to the spark plug wire and calculate hours via spark counts.
What brand/model of meter do you have? Where did you purchase it?
Let me know.
