Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Mower wiring, orange wire, keyswitch
QuestionI have a yardman riding mower. Last year my starter went out and I took it off and the solenoid also. I just finally got the parts to fix it and I cant remember which wire goes were. I have a small red which I assume goes to the solenoid, a yellow which has the female end for the front of the solenoid, and a orange wire which is the one stumping me. Any thoughts?
AnswerHi Mike,
The solenoid needs the two large wires that come from the battery and go to the starter. Also a small wire that comes from the keyswitch, which activates the solenoid. Another wire may connect to the battery-to-solenoid terminal or a 4th terminal, if present. Use a test light to see what wires have power and where they come from or go to.
Let me know how you make out.
Michael
