QuestionEric;
Thanks for your prompt reply. Yes, I do have an Air Compressor. I assume that the 2 springs you mentioned are just under the face plate on the fuel filter on the front of the Carburetor? (since I don't have a Idle Mixture Screw). Is there a step-by-step instruction on how to remove, disassemble, clean & re-assembly this type of Carburetor anywhere? 9Maybe on a B & S Web Site?)
Thanks Again,
Randy Eakes

Question -
I have a 3-year old Craftsman Model 917.270812 with a B & S 19.5 HP Engine that has been running fine. Recently, it started surging, running fast, then slowing down, then fast again. I have the Owner's manual, and looked at the Section on adjusting the Carburetor, but there doesn't seem to be a Idle Mixture Screw anywhere on the Carburetor? (As shown in the manual) It only has a Idle Speed Screw. If I try to adjust just the Idle Speed Screw, I can get the enging to stop surging, but the engine speeds up, and seems to run ok. But, when I increase the throttle up to high, it still surges, when running at High speed?

We see this problem often. The problem is usually fixed by removing, dis-assembling and cleaning the carb with carb cleaner and compressed air.
Those carbs are very simple and you shouldn't have much trouble cleaning it. If it has a fuel pump on the carb just pay very close attention to the 2 small springs in the fuel pump.
Do you have and air compressor?
Let me know.
Eric
AnswerIf you go to Brigg's website you can input your model and type number. I believe under manuals if you select the Illustrated Parts Lists you will be able to see a breakdown of the carb.
We utilize the site for all parts these days so I know it's there.
Let me know if you can't find the site.
