Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): belt installation on murray lawnmower, crankshaft pulley, murray lawnmower
QuestionI have a 12 hp, 38" cut riding lawnmower. My belt broke that engages the blade while I was cutting grass. I have purchased a new belt but I am unsure how to replace and how much, if any, parts have to be loosened or removed to place the belt around the pulleys. If you have a diagram and some instructions on doing this I would be very appreciative!!!
AnswerHi Mark,
I don't have a belt schematic for you but no problem. Just start at the crankshaft pulley and note the pulley's rotation direction. Follow the drive path to each deck pulley noting their proper direction. The belt's back side will usually go around a spring loaded idler pulley, at some point. It will only work one way, so keep at it until you get it right. I bet you will get it, the first time!
Let me know how you make out.
Good luck.
Michael
