Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Charging System, briggs straton, hp briggs

I have a new battery in my tractor, everytime I use the tractor I have to jump it, I was wondering if you could give me some info on how the charging system works...what charges the battery..this is the info on what tractor I have...Model #917252501, Serial #031695B002240, 1997 Craftsman II, 6 speed 42 inch 13 hp Briggs & Straton I/C Gold...I would appreciate any info that you can give me....

Hi Nelson,

Without seeing your tractor, I can't tell what charging system it has.  Some have a starter/generator which through a regulator, charges the battery.  Some are charged by the ignition coil.  You could trace the wiring from the battery to see where it goes.
