Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): 5HP Briggs Motor Bogging, briggs and stratton, hp briggs
QuestionHey i have a 5 HP briggs and stratton motor it is a flat head valve motor not OHV. But any ways i took the govenor off of it and it ran great for about 5 days then it started bogging a little bit when ever it gets hot it bogs, i cleaned out the carb replaced gaskets put new gas in changed spark plug and still runs pretty bad. It will not start up to good and when it does it just bogs out. If you could please help me thats be great thanks so much.

AnswerAssuming you haven't burnt any valves or caused any mechanical damage by running without the governor, it sounds as though it has either a lean issue because the carb still has a blockage or there is a vacuum leak between the carb and the engine. Both conditions would also make the engine run hotter than usual. Hope this helps.
