Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Sear Leaf Blower, thump thump, compression issue
QuestionI have a 185mph Sear Leaf blower that won't run. It has run fine until this season. The only way I could get it to run is to spray starting fluid in the carb, now that doesn't even work. I took the fuel filter off to see if this was the problem, nope. I took the carb apart and dowsed it with carb cleaner, re-assembled it and it still won't start. Replaced the spark plug. The only thing I didn't do was to actually try and clean out the very small holes in the carb with a wire of some type. Any other suggestions? It's 3 yrs old so I don't think it would be a compression issue (that's why i'm asking). Do you know what the compression should read? Thanks for any help.
AnswerIf you turn the engine over slowly, you should feel and hear a good 'thump, thump'. If you can only get it to run with starting fluid (which, I don't recommend...use gasoline or WD40, something with lubricating qualities, if you must for diagnosis only), the problem is with the carb. It is mandatory to use a piece of wire to thoroughly clean out a carb because the small holes plug first. Hope this helps.
