Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Craftsman Lawnmower Burns Primed Gas And Stops, piece of dirt, flow problem
QuestionHi Michael,
My problem is in the heading...My Craftsman Lawnmower was run out of gas. I've since refueled it. Now it won't start. I prime it and pull the cord. It runs for a few seconds until it burns off the primed gas, then stops. I removed the bowl to see if it had any dirt in it. It's crystal clean and gas was flowing fine. I'm afraid to delve further. Any hints?
AnswerHi Ted,
If it only runs with the addition of primed fuel, then there is a fuel flow problem inside the carb. When it ran dry, a piece of dirt must have dislodged from somewhere and clogged an opening. I would remove, disassemble, clean and blow the carb out with compressed air. Probe each and every small hole with a fine wire, as missing just one opening will cause problems. If the engine is old I would add a carb kit, while you have it apart.
Let me know how you make out.
