Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kohler K301 rebuild, john deere 212, tolerance limits
QuestionNot sure if I should get my crank turned? Standard Crankpin Diameter for k301 is 1.4995-1.5000 When I mic mine it is oval shaped 1.496 at TDC and 1.498 ? my C rod is 1.502and made of aluminum . Ive ordered a new STD c rod . do you think this will work or should I have the crank turn 10 thousand under and buy a undersize crank ? I'm new at rebuilding Kohler ,I bought this 1975 John Deere 212 to restore thanks Bob
AnswerHi Robert,
Sorry, I am not familiar with the required clearances for your engine. Your crank is worn but I don't know what the tolerance limits are. I would guess that if a new rod bore is 1.501, then there would be excessive play with the crank at 1.496.
Good Luck,
Michael
