Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Backfires, high octane gas, screws

My go kart engine backfires and it is brand new. Will a high octane gas stop it? If not what will?

It is more likely a carb adjustment is required.  If equipped, set both of the mixture screws to 1 1/2 turns out from lightly seated and start adjusting from there.  If this doesn't correct it, the issue is more involved and, if this is new, take it back for service.  Hope this helps.
