Steering Column Repair: ignition lock repair, locking pin, steering wheel

I lost the ignition keys for my 1979 mustang with tilt steering. How do I disengage the steering lock so I can move the car to a location for repair???

You test my memory of 30 years.  I think you will need to remove the steering wheel so that the locking pin has nothing to engage.  Aside from that I don't believe you can disable it without further dis-assembly of the column.  I'm pretty fuzzy on this one, sorry.
