Steering Column Repair: 1996 ford ranger XLT 4X4 /steering column, mechanic work, multifunction switch

My turn signals are not working and sound like the wiring is shorting out in the column when I use them. I do most all my own mechanic work but have not experienced this type of repair. Is this a DIY repair, or should I seek an expert?

Ford Multui Switch Hi Dan:

The multifunction switch is an exceptionally easy switch to replace.  Remove the covers, and unscrew the 2 screws that secure it to the column.  Unplug it and you're done.  I'm enclosing a picture for you to see what it looks like.
