Steering Column Repair: Steering column bearing, size blazer, shaft assembly

Question
At the bottom of the steering column where it pokes through the firewall and enters the engine compartment there is a bearing where the steering shaft assembly slides in. This bearing is wrecked.  Where would I get one of these bearings.  You can grab the shaft assembly and move it around (up and down and side to side).  The truck wanders from side to side.  1989 FULL SIZE BLAZER.  Tilt steering.  Also, the steering wheel has GMC on it, so I think it has been changed out.  I don't know if this matters though.

Newer style shaft
Hi Don:

there are 2 different size bearings for that location on GM steering columns and I have a feeling you have the rare one.  The difference is in the inside dimension.  The older trucks used a larger shaft that was splined and held in place with a c clamp.  The newer ones ones are oval shaped and simply slide into the lower shaft with a bolt that goes through the center of the two shafts themselves.

We stock the newer bearing, but the older one is hard to find.  If you can get a part #, I may be able to help you find one nationally.

I hope this helps

Good luck
Doug
