Steering Column Repair: 1/8 turn play in the steering wheel, 1990 chevy 1500, hi chris

I have a 1990 chevy 1500 extenda cab, when trying to might slight corrections i have to turn the wheel  about an 1/8 turn before it catches, could this be the steering box or the tie rod?

Hi Chris:

If there is no looseness in the tie rods, then it is most likely play in the gearbox that can be adjusted (my guess is that t is in the gearbox).  Take it in to a muffler and brake shop and have them just do their inspection (without any work) and you should be able to know your answer
