Steering Column Repair: 86 chevy s-10 ignition switch, stearling, actuator assembly
QuestionI OWN A 1986 CHEVY S-10 4x4 EXT CAB 2.8L. MY TRUCK WONT START. AFTER PROCESS OF ELIMINATION I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT MY KEY IGNITION SILINIOD WAS BAD. AFTER REMOVING EVERYTHING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL DOWN TO THE IGNITION SWITCH WITH EASE I FOUND A PROBLEM. THERE IS A SMALL PEICE OF METAL THAT HAS TEETH. CHILTON'S MANUAL CALLS IT A "RACK, SWITCH ACTUATOR". IT IS SOMEHOW CONECTED TO THE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY THAT RUNS DOWN THE STEERING COLUMN INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH UNDER THE DASH. HOW DO I REPLACE THIS? THE UPPER SLEAVE (SHROUD, SHIFT BOWL-CHILTON'S REPAIR MANUAL) IM HAVING TROUBLE REMOVING ALSO AND CHILTON OR HAYNES DOES NOT GO INTO DETAIL ON HOW TO REMOVE IT. DO I HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING COLUMN? HOW DO I REMOVE THE SHROUD, SHIFT BOWL?
