Subaru Repair: 1988 subaru wagon, top notch, 8l
Questionhi, my 1988 Subaru wagon with the 1.8L EA82 motor just started to puff smoke out of the oil inlet on the motor so i assume the rings are gone. i just was thinking what sort of a job is it to split the case, or would it be easier to find a new motor?
i am an Australian so that might add to my costs also, i have been quoted AUD$400.00 for the parts needed to complete the job.
AnswerWill,
Splitting the case half's is a chore. Plus you will need a top
notch Machinist.
No idea about Australia, but in the U.S. finding a good used motor for a 1988 is a tall task and there are no new motors.
Most Reman or Rebuilt motors are suspect.
