Subaru Repair: oxygen sensors, subaru outback, obd ii scan tool, oxygen sensors

engine light, which has recently come on was diagnosed by mechanic as needing front oxygen sensor while clutch was being replaced. mechanic said installing not a big deal so contemplating doing it myself. need to know how to reset engine light afterwards. thanks

Hey Felix,

You can clear the memory a few different ways ,
1. With a generic OBD II scan tool/code reader
2. You can do a google search for the proper drive cycle to reset the o2 sensor monitor.
3.You may be able to disconnect the battery long enough to clear it depending on what code is set.
Lastly the light will go out in time if the car is truly fixed.
Once a fault is repaired and the ECM (Engine Control Module) no longer recognizes a defective component or condition it will no longer command the check engine light to be on.
