Subaru Repair: Knock Sensor, subaru outback, subaru dealer
QuestionI own a 2001 Subaru Outback and my check engine light is on. I was told that I need a knock sensor. Can you tell me about how much one of these cost, where is a good place to get it from and how hard is it to put it on. My husband does alot of work on our vehicle and I didn't know if this would be something he could do or if I would have to take it to a shop. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
AnswerIt is not a hard repair to do. Your husband shouldn't have any trouble replacing the knock sensor himself. I think it is just one bolt, and one electrical connector. The part plugs into the top of the block, left side I think, under the intake - and you do not have to remove the intake. I recommend using dealership parts for electrical issues. But, most aftermarket parts stores can also get you this part, and they may be just fine. List price from a Subaru dealer is 94.17 and the Subaru part number should be 22060AA070.
