QuestionI have a dumb question but I am going to ask anyway. I live in Monroe Mi. and want to tow a 06 Explorer on a dolly or a car hauler with my 06 H3. I believe my tow rating is 4500 for my H3 and I believe the Explorer weighs 6015 but not positive. The Explorer is 2 wheel drive, 4 door. I would be towing it about 90 miles on the freeway. Can I tow this with my H3? Will it hurt the trans in the Explorer if its on a dolly? My H3 is an automatic. Like I said dumb question but would rather have an experts opinion then my own. I think I cant but am hoping I can lol. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dave
AnswerI really hate questions like this, as towing with dollies is totally different from what I really do...
But weight wise, it sounds like you should be able to do it, but remember that your tow vehicle should weigh more then the towed vehicle and trailer - dolly.
As to the transmission, if you tow it with the rear wheels on the tow dolly, then your transmission will be "off the ground" as the drive wheels are the rear wheels.
U-Haul has a great web site, where you can see if "THEY RECOMMEND OR ALLOW" this vehicle combination.
And the have a booklet usually in the rental centers where you can get more information on towing - trailering - dollying vehicles.
Here is some online information
