QuestionI have a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 short wheel base with a 5.7 Hemi Magnum engine. The truck is also equipped with tow package. My question is: what would be the maximum weight for a 5th wheel R.V. that I could safely pull? We have made a couple of trips out west and I don't want to get halfway up a mountain and find out I can't get to the top.
This fall we plan on taking a trip up the east coast.
I have talked to our local Dodge dealer and they told me I could tow about 10,000 lbs, but the service folks at Camping World said about 8,000..
AnswerI don't want to be vague because more information is needed but I did find this link that could help http://dodgeram.info/2003/load-tow/1500.html You really need to know your axle ratio, options such as 2wd or 4wd, cab type, axle ratings, weights, etc. to fine tune your tow rating. On a personal note, 8k with a 1/2 ton is alot weight pulling in the mountains.
