Towing Issues: Towing charge if show up before car was towed, shop rite, computer problem
QuestionI parked my car in a shopping plaza (Shop Rite) parking lot and went to one of the stores adjecent to the shopping lot plaza. When I returned, my license plate number was already taken and there was a red sticker on the windshield saying that I parked illegally and my registration was taken. I drove away BEFORE the car was towed. Am I still responsible for paying the tow charge even though the car was never towed based on the information from my license plate (I live in New Jersey)?
AnswerI would say there is not a tow charge as they did not show up and do anything... But consider that a warning and remember that if you park there again and go elsewhere...
The laws in New Jersey have recently changed regarding towing from Private Property and as such I believe have placed more rules on signs and notices now before towing...
I wish I had the links to the new laws but I had a computer problem and I lost all my information links (am trying to get them back) so I really do not have the specific laws at the moment...
But I think you are safe from any towing fees for that episode.
