Towing Issues: Flat towing, mid shaft, jeep cherokee

I have a 1994 Jeep Cherokee, 2wd, automatic trans.
I am currently flat towing it.  Can this damage the transmission?  I do not disconnect the driveshaft.  If this is necessary what is available to correct the problem.

Yes, yes it can.  I don't know how far you've towed it to date, but I'm surprised you haven't destroyed the transmission.  

There is a part made by (among others) Remco Manufacturing.  It is a driveshaft coupling and will disconnect the movement mid-shaft.
