hi i have a 2000 toyota corolla 3 door hatchback yesterday engine light came on but still drivrng perfect, what could be problem??

Hello, in most cases, if engine performance is not affected, this is related to an emission control system malfunction, check to make sure the gas cap is on tight, check the cap and the fuel filler for damage, replace the cap with an OEM part, erase the codes and see if it comes back on, clear the codes by disconnecting the battery for a minute, I f the light comes back on you can take it to autozone or other parts store and have the codes read at no charge, then return here and let me know what they are.
