Toyota Repair: filling up my gas tank, fuel filler pipe, fuel pipe

whenever I try to fill up my tank,it cuts off prematurely as if its full but its not

There may be something that fell into the fuel filler pipe and is lodged in there or down further in the fuel pipe at the tank, there is a one way valve just inside the tank opening, something may be stuck in there. Is the check engine light on? What year and model is it?
