Toyota Repair: 1997 Toyota RAV4, toyota rav4, timing belt

Hi.My 1997 RAV4 i making a rapping sound from the area where the belts are and it runs HOT. Temp gauge buried HOT. The sound is fairly loud. Mileage is at 143k. Please help!!!! Thank you.

It's hard to say what the noise is but it sounds like there may be a problem with the timing belt or the water pump, the timing cover should be removed for inspection for this. The two conditions  may not be related, the noise could be coming from the drive belt tensioner, try spraying water on the belt and see if the noise goes away. The overheating could also be caused by a sticking or stuck thermostat.
