I hand my Toyota camry 1990 model engine overhauled.

after overhauling the Engine light comes on. What could be the cause of this.

There are many causes for the check engine light, usually a sensor that provides information to the computer, there will be a trouble code stored in the computer, you can get this code by turning the key on then look for the diagnostic check connector under the hood, open the cover and put a jumper wire between terminals TE1 and E1, the check engine light will blink giving you the code, it will be two numbers,  a code 21 would be two blinks followed by one, let me know what the code is, there may be more than one.
